Civic Engagement

We need a woman to take over office! It is time to go out and vote! With your support together we can take on Washington D.C. and make the change we need to become a better nation. Americans will see a change that was promised the past 8 years but never came!

Lets Take Control of Immigration: No one argues that legal immigration is a wonderful aspect to the American culture, as legal immigrants from around the world pursue opportunity and prosperity in this country. But illegal immigration devalues those opportunities. The misguided policies of the Obama administration have not only allowed dangerously unsecured borders, they've also shielded illegal immigrants who've committed heinous violent crimes from being deported.

Take Control of Farms: In another blatant example of big government run amok, tens of thousand of your tax dollars have been given to billionaires as farm subsidies. As Governor Palin discusses, these are people who have never stepped into a farmer's field but are still reaping benefits designed to help family farmers.

Let’s take control and vote for a family oriented woman who knows how to get things done! Sarah Palin was the first female and youngest governor ever elected in Alaskan history. Governor Palin stood up for her constituents when dealing with the powerful oil companies. Alaska was 2nd in job growth compared to all other states during her tenure as governor. Alaska’s exports for 2007 reached $3.9 billion, the second best year for exports. Joined multi-state amicus brief authored by the state of Texas in support of the Second Amendment right of individual Americans to bear arms.

Time to take control, and make a difference, use your power to go out and VOTE for Sarah Palin, a mother who is devoted to helping make the changes to America!

Press Coverage

When doing a basic Google search of “Sarah Palin” you get the In the News section of the latest news about her. Which the top three news reports on her, which include:
1.    “Bill Maher Skewers Sarah Palin’s PAC Logo On ‘Real Time’” by Huffington Post

2.    “The Fartknocker Report: Sarah Palin So Mad Obama Won’t Stop Murdering The African Christians” by Wonkette
3.    “Maher: Maybe There’s a Scandal, But Schweizer Worked for Palin and She’s Stupid” by Breitbart News

Then the rest of the page consists of her website, the Wikipedia page for Palin, and then her social media sites. Now if you click on the more news section you will see that a lot of these news stories just criticizing Palin. There is not a lot of coverage on her possible campaign, probably because she has not announced or because no one takes it seriously.

Palin’s Facebook looks like it is mainly run by her people and not as much her, it is not generating much news. Now when it comes to media coverage it looks like the media does most of it, not really done by her people.

I think that the media is doing most of it because she is still out doing stuff and everyone wants to keep tabs on her but her team is not doing much because she has not made any hits or statements that she is running in the 2016 Presidential election. So it is hard for them to produce anything when they do not have anything. I think that the media is not helping Palin make a good run for President; it is more critical than anything else. The media coverage that she is getting right now continues to paint her in a light where she is dumb, not competent or capable to be a leader, and that she is just a “celebrity”.

The coverage that Palin is receiving now is not good and it needs to be turned around soon or she will not be able to change people’s views. When it comes to media coverage when you are preparing for a run at the presidential election you will want the media to be talking about you in a positive manor. You want people to believe that you have the right skills and are qualified to run the country. You want the media to show the positive side of your image, you will want them to take you seriously and not make a cartoon of you. The media plays a big role in how we see candidates so if there is a possibility of your image constantly being diminished or not serious it will be hard for the voters to see you that way too. Having good media coverage will be beneficial for anyone trying to make a run for the 2016 election. But how you handle the negative coverage will show how you will handle situations when put into a more serious position. Voters will always criticize candidates but what you do with the criticism is how you will overcome the adversity of the media and is necessary to win elections.

Media Bias

Liberal: Slate.com
“Bill Maher Congratulates Conservative Pundits for Throwing Sarah Palin Under the Bus”

Slate posts a story about Bill Maher basically being sarcastic about Sarah Palin and her speech in Iowa. He basically bashed Republicans then entire time by saying “Didn’t that feel good to finally purge yourself of something that wasn’t sitting well in your gut?” Maher asked. “It’s like when you’re sick and you make yourself throw up, you feel better afterwards.” And how they are late to the party and “what took them so long? The rest of us have been watching this dog eat grass for seven years.”

Conservative: Fox News
“Panning Palin: Why conservative media are dismissing her 2016 prospects”

Fox News posts a story Howard Kurtz discussing Sarah Palin and her speech in Iowa. He talks about how Sarah was a “sad story” on Saturday, and how the media is not taking her serious. Kurtz said that he would take her serious when she steps down as a Fox News contributor. We still see that the speech in Iowa did not help her but the media does not help. She is still a household name and is important since her 2008 Vice President run.

Reflection:

Both news sites did not speak highly of Palin on her trip to Iowa, but Fox News did do a better job at trying to have a positive spin while The Slate just basically bashed Palin. Seeing how Palin usually falls better with conservative outlets it is accurate that they will try to push her in a better light and for the liberal outlets to take her down. Bill Maher talking complete trash and picking apart Palin is not truly fair but it is just what happens in media. But I do believe that bashing the Republicans is taking it too far.
If someone only saw the article by Bill Maher they would think that Palin is not able or ready to run our country. Within the first 15 seconds, he says “Many Republicans have come forward to say you were right Sarah Palin is a crazy person” from that alone it just makes it seem hard for someone to want to listen to what that person has to say or let them run our country.
Now if they saw what Howard Kurtz had said they would see that yes she is struggling but she has some steps to take to before people will take her 2016 run for President serious. It is fair to say that yes she has cried wolf before but she has done a lot in the past 8 years since her VP run and the media has not really helped her. If she were to run for President in 2016 I think the media will try to tear her apart again and that is what is holding her back a bit.

But if she did run I think she would get people on board and she would have the right push to make and get things done. Now all she has to do is take some steps and she will be able to get the rest of the media behind her and people will stop completely criticizing her and making her look like an idiot.

Political Satire

Having Tina Fay portray Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live shows what the media portrays her as and it makes her look like a complete idiot. There are several times where Fay plays Palin on Saturday Night Live. Each time it really gets worse for Palin. It pushes back her image and everything that she is trying to accomplish. Even though it does give more press to Palin it is not always good press. Yes, her name is being talked about more and more but she is also seen as a joke. From the 2008 election Palin basically became a fast track star but also seen as an idiot. Most people remember from that election where Palin had said “I can see Russia from my house” and that has stuck with her ever since.

It is hard for Palin to be taken seriously in politics, or really at all. She is seen as a joke and people try to make a big deal over little things she does. Palin has stated that she does know that they are portraying her as an idiot and she really does not like that. It does affect her, but she works really hard to overcome all the negative media that is thrown her way. As a candidate not only does it make people judge what she is saying, but it is also being taken out of context so it really makes people question her and what she is doing. This makes it really hard for any candidate try to overcome this and make a difference.

The media had said that Taylor Swift was rolling
her eyes because she was put next to Sarah Palin
But the media had cropped the image to make Palin look bad,
while everyone was looking up. She was not rolling
her eyes at her seat placement.

Palin did embrace it and made an appearance on Saturday Night Lives 40th anniversary show. She did get up and make a comment towards her running for President in 2016 with Donald Trump as her running mate. The media of course took this and ran with it saying that Saturday Night Live was the perfect place for this because it was comedy and a joke. Continuing this proving that the media just sees Palin as a joke and it really does hurt her overall image.

With the new age of Social Media, and being the “Technology Generation” we see a lot more of candidates embracing this and are trying to connect with viewers through TV show appearances. Palin being on Saturday Night Live, Obama being on “Between Two Ferns”, Michelle Obama making an appearance onthe Ellen Show, Joe Biden making his appearance on Parks and Rec, HillaryClinton showing up on The View. It is the technology generation and they are trying to connect with us through this to make an impact. Even though it seems weird because take a flashback to 2004 you would not expect to see Bush on any type of show. But when it comes down to it, we are in a new era where this is seen as acceptable and appropriate.

For Palins sake being on Saturday Night Live was not helpful and really took her steps backward and she is no longer seen as a true politician but just as a TV personality or even a reality star. This has taken her down several notches and will be extremely hard for her to overcome if she wants any type of political future.
Its things like this that make it
tough to take Palin seriously

Palin did nothing wrong besides post a picture
of her son taking strides
and the media took it the wrong way
and made it a huge deal for mistreatment of the dog.

Advertisements

2008 Vice Presidential Campaign Advertisements

“Disrespectful”

This 2008 Vice Presidential campaign ad was an image ad used by the McCain campaign. This ad was used to counteract the attacks that were made by the Obama campaign. Showing the negative words that were used in context with Palin and how they were wrong and how it backfired. It also states how Governor Palin proves them wrong. I believe that they used this to challenge the Obama campaign, and help show that Palin has a mind of her own, that she is not just a puppet. It was a smart move, to get out in front and turn it around to make a positive spin on what was being said about her.

“Original Mavericks”

This 2008 Vice Presidential campaign ad was an ad used by the McCain campaign to show issues on how both Palin and McCain have battled through many things and won to help change the United States. This ad is a very positive campaign choice and shows that they are making big strides to improve our living. I believe this ad was chosen to help show that they have made a difference and that they are trying to bring that difference into Washington. They will make history and help our future by taking on these big companies and big issues. It is truly made to give hope to the American voters.

“Crisis”

This 2008 Vice Presidential campaign ad was an issue ad used by the McCain campaign to show how Palin and McCain have helped reform and bring hope to the American citizens. This ad is really focused on trying to connect with American’s and showing that there is hope and it is coming. With the knowledge and leadership that they both have to help bring light to the future. I believe this was a smart move to show that they are still going to make a change even in these tough times.

“No Maverick”

This 2008 Campaign ad was used by the Obama Campaign to attack the McCain-Palin campaign. Where it attacks the words that are used to describe them and that they are not doing what they need to do to help America. This is a good strategy to show how Palin had some issues, even though we focus on this issue it will be used to move past it.

Overall I think that the ads used in the 2008 Election where strong they really tried to keep a strong focus. With having more issue ads it really tries to show how they have a focus on restoring America. While yes there were some image ads they were mainly used to have a counter to what was being said about her. I believe that the ads did not have a focus on trying to manipulate or hide things from the American voters. They were there to really show where they wanted to take the United States and how they wanted to reform to create a positive outcome. Sarah Palin had a lot of harsh critics and I believe that these ads were used in a helpful way to try to move past these critics and show the positive of her being Vice President.
